6-Day Marangu Route – Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing

After registration at Marangu Gate, begin your climb through lush rainforest, home to blue monkeys and colobus. The trail is well-maintained and gently ascending.

The forest gives way to heath and moorland with giant lobelias and groundsels. Enjoy open views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo.

This crucial acclimatization day helps your body adjust to altitude. You may hike toward Zebra Rocks or higher slopes of Mawenzi before returning to Horombo Hut.

Cross the alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The terrain is stark and dry, with dramatic landscapes. Arrive at Kibo Hut early to rest before the summit attempt.

• Distance: ~21 km
• Hiking Time: 12–15 hours

Summit day begins around midnight. Climb steadily to Gilman’s Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut.
